The Office to Advance Women Apprentices (OAWA) works with tradeswomen in Alberta to assist them in advancing through their apprenticeship to Red Seal certification in the skilled trades.  


What will you do?

Local area coordinators will connect with local tradeswomen and will assist them in getting their career started in a trade and advancing through their apprenticeship. This position is based in Fort McMurray and the surrounding regions and will report to the Project Manager and Project Director. Some duties may include but are not limited to career planning and goal setting, client, employer and resource recruitment and relationship building, client services, tracking and reporting, data entry, event coordination/planning and promotional activities, resume development and providing reports to management. 


What do you need to succeed?

Requirements

– Strong organizational, facilitation, time management and communication skills.
– Ability to work diplomatically and independently in a challenging environment.
– Knowledge of client confidentiality and privacy laws. 
– Must be adaptable in an ever-growing environment.
– Comprehensive knowledge of the provincial apprenticeship system and the Canadian Red Seal Program.
– The ability to travel within Canada.
– Travel within Edmonton and surrounding communities is an important component of this position. Therefore, having regular access to a personal vehicle is a must.


Valuable Assets

– Experience in a client service-based environment.
– Experience in hosting and event planning.
– Experience in promotional and marketing activities and marketing events.
– Strong computer data entry skills, working knowledge of MS Suites and Adobe.
– Experience in relationship-building with various industry stakeholders.
– Experience in mentoring, conflict mediation and assessing individual tradeswomen’s needs.
– Experience in career counselling, resume development, interview, and job preparation.
