The Office to Advance Women Apprentices (OAWA) aims to reduce employment barriers for tradeswomen in Alberta, supporting them to progress through their apprenticeships to achieve Red Seal certification in skilled construction trades.
What will you do as Project Coordinator for OAWA?
Coordinators will be the ultimate trifecta of support! First, they’ll team up with tradeswomen, helping them kick-start their careers and navigate the apprenticeship system. Second, they’ll build strong meaningful connections with employers eager to hire. Third, they’ll work on creating community resources for clients while fostering industry relationships. This role involves travel across the province and reports directly to the Project Manager and Project Director.
Key responsibilities will include career planning and goal setting, recruiting clients, employers, and resources, tracking progress, and generating reports. You’ll also be involved in organizing events, crafting compelling resumes, and keeping management updated with detailed reports.

What do you need to succeed?
Requirements
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a project coordination or support role (preferably in a trades or apprenticeship-related field) or three (3) years trade experience.
- Strong organizational, facilitation, time management and communication skills.
- Ability to work diplomatically and independently in a challenging environment.
- Must be adaptable in an ever-changing environment.
Valuable assets
- Experience in a client service-based environment.
- Experience in hosting and event planning.
- Experience in promotional and marketing activities and marketing events.
- Strong computer data entry skills, working knowledge of MS Suites and Adobe.
- Experience in relationship-building with various industry stakeholders.
- Experience in mentoring, conflict mediation and assessing individual tradeswomen’s needs.
- Experience in career counselling, resume development, interview, and job preparation.
- Must be adaptable in an ever-changing environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the provincial apprenticeship system and the Canadian Red Seal Program.
