Edmonton, AB – The Carpenters’ Regional Council (CRC) is pleased to announce that UBC members in Alberta have successfully voted to ratify a new province-wide registered collective agreement (RCA). The new agreement will deliver a 10% wage increase over the next four years for union carpenters across the province.
The three affiliated Local Unions of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) in Alberta (Locals 1325, 2103 and 1999) held specially called ratification meetings to present the new deal achieved through months of productive negotiations between the CRC and employer representatives.
The ratification vote saw 8% of members voting in favour of the new RCA, which secured key improvements to support the stability, well-being and economic resilience of Alberta’s carpenters and scaffolders. In addition to the 10% wage increase, the new agreement will raise shift premiums by $1.00 for workers in the industrial sector, and $0.65 for workers in non-industrial sectors. Foreman and General Foreman shift premiums were also raised by $1.00.
Being the first RCA for UBC members in Alberta negotiated under the new Carpenters’ Regional Council structure, this ratification marks a major step toward building a stronger, more unified union across provinces. Operating as a larger council, sharing resources and coordinating efforts interprovincially has helped union staff negotiate the strongest agreement possible for UBC members.
“The success of this new collective agreement reflects not only the strength of UBC members in Alberta, but also a new era of collaboration under the Carpenters’ Regional Council model – one that positions UBC members in Alberta for long-term stability, now and into the future,” says Kurt Kashuba, CRC Regional Manager for Alberta and British Columbia.
The new Registered Collective Agreement will remain in effect until April 30, 2029, and will help ensure fair compensation and improved working conditions for members, supporting their livelihoods and the well-being of their families.
